Many people discuss the challenges of accessing a psychiatrist or scheduling an appointment with a psychologist.

Improving those services and making sure that they are affordable for everyone to access help for mental health issues is unquestionably essential. However, I still believe that many people are seeking assistance for issues that they should have learned to handle while growing up.

Introducing self-awareness and communication skills early is vital, ideally when children begin kindergarten. The teaching methods should be tailored to suit the children's age, but there is no reason why we shouldn't educate children about their emotions and welfare.

Is there any reason not to educate children and teenagers in emotional intelligence? Instructing them on recognizing their emotions and finding a constructive way to express them, distinguishing between their feelings and those of others, and establishing boundaries with people is feasible.

Individuals must discover their preferences, aspirations, strengths, and areas for growth. Understanding these aspects is essential for effectively communicating emotions, needs, and desires.

Imagine how much more equipped we would be for life, advanced studies, work, and relationships with loved ones if we had acquired self-confidence and communication skills from a young age.

Reflecting on the knowledge acquired through self-improvement, I recognize the learning opportunities that could have been offered in school. This could have negated the necessity of depending on counsellors and therapists and the associated costs and efforts.

During therapy, I discovered how to manage my emotions by expressing them, as well as how to soothe myself when faced with unexpected situations rather than reacting impulsively to triggers, which could have led to an exaggerated response.

It would have been beneficial to discover sooner that emotions are not a problem on their own but rather valuable information. For instance, feeling uneasy can signal unhappiness with a situation or indicate that something in life needs attention.

I wish I had the opportunity to learn how to navigate challenging conversations and handle individuals who may not have a favourable opinion of me. While showing kindness and respect to others is crucial, it is equally important not to allow others' perspectives to hinder you from pursuing the life you desire.

If only I had realized sooner the importance of prioritizing myself. Understanding the essence of effective communication would have helped me avoid misinterpreting others' body language and focus more on asking people about their thoughts and feelings.

These examples illustrate the potential ways to mentor young individuals. While we typically develop these skills through interactions with family, colleagues, and peers, having a solid foundation and improved communication tools would facilitate the process.

By teaching us from an early age to understand ourselves and address common issues that many of us encounter, psychologists and psychiatrists could be more effectively utilized to assist individuals in challenging circumstances or those who have experienced trauma rather than simply guiding people through everyday life and its obstacles.
