A community for every one of us

While I have never been interested in discussing politics, I find myself pondering the statement made by my country's finance minister that it is not the government's responsibility to guarantee equality in society. If that is not within her purview, then what is?

We seem to have become so accustomed to our current circumstances that we embrace them instead of considering how to bring about change. Rather than viewing ourselves as part of a nation and perceiving the government as having absolute power, we should see ourselves as a collective community or tribe and view those in leadership positions as elders chosen by the tribe members to guide us.
My question is, why have we chosen elders who do not believe it is their responsibility to look after all members of our tribe? Why have we selected elders who do not see it as their duty to ensure everyone can be as comfortable as possible and notably support those facing difficulties?
Individuals facing the most significant challenges should receive the most support rather than only leftovers after others have partaken. By considering all those in need as equal members of the community, those of us who can assist should do so willingly.
Viewing individuals as human beings rather than issues would lead us to assist those who have experienced accidents, individuals facing diseases, mental obstacles, addictions, poverty, and those in difficult situations.
We would help them as they are interconnected with us, part of the collective. Expressing love, kindness, and empathy, those with the means would contribute to the community, ensuring everyone's well-being.
We should not allow those who lack empathy to dictate the direction of our society, as they often believe that individuals facing challenges are solely responsible for their circumstances due to a lack of effort. Instead, let's seek out individuals with genuine leadership abilities who prioritize the well-being of all and strive to create an environment where everyone can thrive and succeed.
I don't consider it unrealistic to suggest that we can coexist peacefully. The issue is not the lack of resources but rather the disparity in their distribution. Some individuals believe they are entitled to more than others and are indifferent to the struggles of those with less, viewing it as their concern.
Although I have never been interested in politics, I acknowledge that it is how we determine our communal living. Therefore, it requires our attention. I seek leaders dedicated to fostering equality and prosperity and prioritising public health concerns.
My intention is not to sway people to vote for a specific political party but rather to encourage reconsidering the entire system and the objectives we aim to achieve through the governance we select.
Let's examine the expectations we place on our leaders. Consider whether we will permit individuals to exploit the system for personal gain rather than striving for the collective welfare of the community. Let's reflect on the type of society we desire to inhabit. There is undoubtedly room for significant improvement beyond our current state.
